Auto Rickshaw Strike In Mumbai
More than 80,000 taxis and close to one lakh autos were not available to the city. Drivers announced a strike at midnight on Monday. Autorickshaw fares were hiked with effect from Thursday in Mumbai and nearby Thane.
The fare hike would affect 105,000 autorickshaws in Mumbai and another 35,000 in Thane district, said union general secretary Shashank Rao. Commuters in Mumbai had a harrowing time on Tuesday, June 22 after the 80,000-odd taxis and around 1 lac auto rickshaws that ply in the metropolis went off the roads demanding fare hike.
